Bubbler Concerns
- The private drainage system is a homeowner’s responsibility from the house to the storm line connection.
- The Highway will not flush the bubbler lines on private property.
- A bubbler near the street acts as a safety valve in the event of a curb tile being full or plugged.
- If no water is coming out at the bubbler, a resident should contact a plumber before the highway department
- Water flowing out of a bubbler vent during a heavy rainfall does not in itself mean that there is a problem with your drainage system.
- Common blockages of a bubbler or drainage system include: leaves, dirt/mud and other objects from gutters or sump pumps.
- The Highway Department will come out and check the main lines and catch basins for any obstructions.

Yard Waste Regulations
Starting April 1 residents can put out yard compost materials on their regular collection day. The material must be properly bundled and or packaged for pickup. For a complete explanation of guidelines, please see the link below.

Street Light Conversion to LED
Starting the week of May 15, 2023, contractors will begin converting all street lights in the Town of Amherst to LED lighting. This project will take up to a full year to complete. Residents can call the Highway Department at (716) 631-7117 for more information.
