Closure Announcement - Boardwalk at Great Baehre Swamp
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today (Dec. 20) announced the continued temporary closure of the boardwalk at Great Baehre Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA), including the town of Amherst’s Billy Wilson Park boardwalk in DEC Region 9. The closure will continue into early January 2025 in order to complete construction repair work that began last month.

Town Offices Closed Jan. 1, 2025
Town of Amherst Offices, including Town Court, will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 in observance of New Year's Day. The holiday will impact Modern Disposal garbage and recycling pickup schedule. If your collection falls on or follows Jan. 1, your pick up will be delayed one day with Friday's pick up done on Saturday.

HEAP Outreach - Jan. 30
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps low-income people pay the cost of heating their homes. If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per season and could also be eligible for an emergency HEAP benefit if you are in impending danger of running out of fuel or having your utility service shut off. The Amherst Center for Senior Services will host a HEAP Outreach Event from 9 AM to 3:30 PM Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Center, 370 JJ Audubon Pkwy. Stop in and see if you are eligible for assistance with heating your home this winter. Required documentation includes: photo ID, heating bill and proof of income. Supervisor's December Message
Each one of us has faced a form of difficulty this past year. It might have been a loss of a loved one, a health challenge, a job change, an accident, or any number of stresses. While stress is a part of everyone’s life, it is also a commonality that can often isolate us when the struggle becomes too hard. That is why it important to remember to think of others and lend a helping hand where you can. The saying, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about,” is a reminder to strive to always be kind and giving. (Read full column at attachment below)

First Responders Honored for Life-Saving Actions
On Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, the Amherst Town Board honored the Snyder Fire Department, Twin City Ambulance, Amherst Police Department, the 911 Dispatchers and the Archer Family for their efforts to save the life of Dr. Archer back in the fall. Our first responders are heroes day in and day out, and we thank them for their service. The Archer Family did everything right to start CPR immediately and call for help, and today they share the importance of being trained in CPR. The Town of Amherst has an overnight winter parking ban in place from November 1, 2024 - April 1, 2025. Do not park vehicles on Town streets between the hours of 1 AM and 7 AM.

The Committee on Disabilities is seeking volunteers
We're seeking volunteers to join our Committee! The Committee on Disabilities is seeking residents who are interested in joining the Committee to help advocate for a more inclusive and accessible community. If you are dedicated to making a positive impact for individuals with disabilities in our Town, we would love to have you on board. What We Do:Promote accessibility and inclusion in our community; Work directly with the Town to offer feedback on accessibility; Host events and provide resources to raise awareness. What We’re Looking For: Individuals with a passion for disability advocacy: Those who are committed to making our community more inclusive; A mix of lived experiences, skills, and ideas to help strengthen our work. Citizen’s Guide to Identifying and Preventing Stormwater Pollution
The Town of Amherst is a MS4 Community and together with the Western New York Stormwater Coalition, Amherst is providing this Citizen’s Guide to help identify and prevent stormwater pollution. Please see the attached document for helpful tips on understanding illicit discharges and things you can do to protect water quality. For questions or to report an issue, email sburow@amherst.ny.us. Royal Park CLOSED for construction
Royal Park is closed this summer/fall for construction. There will be no access to the park while crews are completing the park's improvement project. The Town is adding tennis and pickleball courts, a splash pad, expanding the playground, repairing the basketball court, adding a walking path and constructing an athletic field in partnership with Daemen University Athletics.
