The Town of Amherst is actively working to mitigate odor issues in the area surrounding the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Tonawanda Creek Road. This web page provides residents with information related to this issue. Residents are asked to use this online form to report odor issues or send questions about the Plant's operations. A dynamic Track Us portal is also integrated, allowing Town administrators to publish relevant and timely content related to this issue.

Treatment Plant Upset

Due to the ongoing instability and upset conditions of the plant's biology, the plant management has been required to partially bypass its influent flow creating localized odor issues.

Completing Repair Work - Short term odor issues

Ongoing maintenance of a tank system at the treatment plant has required partial bypass of the odor control scrubber. That tank system is expected to be repaired late afternoon 9/29 and odors should dissipate throughout the night. Thank you for your patience.

Odor issues at treatment facility

Over the next two days, 9/21 and 9/22, the odor control system in the solids handling building will be periodically bypassed to perform maintenance activities. Nuisance odors may be detectable offsite, specifically downwind of the facility.

Plant Maintenance

Please note that the wastewater treatment plant may generate fugitive odors over the next week (until 6/30/23) as facility personnel perform HVAC maintenance activities on the air handling equipment in the solids handling building.

Plant Maintenance

A general plant shutdown is underway to clean channels so that the recently renovated filters can be put back in service. This work will generate odors throughout the day 5/23. By 5/24, the plant should be operating as normal.
