Highway Department /  Street Lighting

The Town of Amherst Highway Department oversees the street lighting in the Town.

Street Lighting Issues

Please be advised that the Town recently purchased the streetlight system from National Grid and is currently undergoing a conversion to LED fixtures. As such, individual streetlights that are out may not be repaired immediately, as they will be converted to LED in the near future. To report a street lighting issue, please use the online form at the link below.

Report a Streetlight Outage or other issue

If there is a request for new light poles to be installed that request must be made in writing to the Highway Superintendent. Once the request is received there is a process that must be followed and ultimately the Amherst Town Board must approve any additional street lighting in the Town.
