
Accountant/Supervising Accountant (Full Time)

The Town of Amherst, NY is seeking an experienced professional to serve as an Accountant or Supervising Accountant in the Town Comptroller’s Office.
Description of Duties
The work involves planning, supervising, developing, directing and participating in complex accounting and financial recordkeeping, including general ledgers and journals. Participates in the preparation of financial reports, statements and annual reports; maintains general books of accounts according to established account classifications; processes vouchers; assists in coordinating external audits by County, State and independent auditors, including preparation of a response to audit recommendations; and participates in the preparation of the annual budget.
Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and auditing; strong working knowledge of GAAP and/or GASB standards; thorough knowledge of modern methods of maintaining and checking financial accounts and records; solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; and ability to prepare, maintain and analyze fiscal accounting records and reports. Requires Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in accounting and four (4) years of experience in accounting and/or auditing.
Rate of Pay
Starting salary range is $62,635 - $75,964. Enrollment in New York State Retirement System and excellent benefits package available.
