It is my pleasure to welcome you to the "Amherst Police Department Web Site". We are a New York State Accredited Agency comprised of 169 sworn officers and supported by 54 full and part-time civilian employees. Our mission is to provide a high level of safety and police services for the 129,000 residents of Amherst, the largest suburb of Buffalo, located in upstate Western New York. We also provide police services for the Village of Williamsville, which is located within the town boundaries.

It is our goal to maintain a proactive approach to resolve all public safety concerns and quality of life issues that may arise in order to maintain our ranking as one of the safest communities in the country. This proud distinction was attained by the hard work and dedication of all our men and women who commit themselves daily to the mission of excellence, a constant trait found throughout our history.

As Chief of Police, I am confident the Amherst Police Department will continue to strive for excellence to achieve our objectives, working in partnership with the community and local government. Please spend some time getting acquainted with the department that continues to be “Big enough to serve you but small enough to know you.”
