The Electrical Division Office Hours are 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM Monday-Friday
The primary purpose of the Electrical Division of the Building Department is to:
- Inspect electrical systems for code compliance
- Coordinate electrical power between utility companies and property owners
- Review electrical plans during the permit process and provide advice to designers on code compliance
- Assist property owners with New York State and National Electrical Code requirements
- Inspect the installation and locations of carbon monoxide alarms and smoke alarms
- Investigate complaints about electrical maintenance, lighting and code compliance
- Maintain the list of electrical license holders
- Oversee the Board of Electrician Examiners which:
- Has jurisdiction and examination authority over all persons desiring or intending to engage in electrical construction
- Has power to examine and certify person applying for licenses as master or residential electricians
- Shall hold examinations twice yearly to examine persons applying for licenses
- May revoke any license if deemed necessary
