- Don’t touch anything in contact with an exposed street light wire, including cars, equipment, objects or other people.
- Don’t drive in the exposed or compromised area of the street light.
How long does it take to repair a streetlight?
Streetlight repair times vary based on the complexity of the repair, but most are completed within two (2) weeks. During severe weather events, restoration times may be longer.
How does the streetlight get repaired or replaced?
After a report is received by the Town of Amherst Engineering Department, our maintenance contractor will investigate the problem. Depending on the severity of the problem, especially outages that require underground construction, repair may take longer than two (2) weeks.
Not all poles and lights are owned and maintained by the Town of Amherst:
Not all street and area lighting are owned and maintained by the Town of Amherst. The Town is not responsible for lights in private parking lots, along rear or side lot lines, and any light located in the Village of Williamsville or outside the municipal boundary. The best way to determine whether a light is owned and maintained by the Town of Amherst is to use our Outage Reporting Form which graphically depicts the Town’s streetlights.
