Summer Camp Registration, 2/28/24
We apologize for the technical issues. We have been working with our ISP all morning to get them ironed out. We initially delayed registration by two weeks so that we could test run the new system and set up new protocols so this wouldn't happen. All test runs went smoothly. When we left here at 5:30pm yesterday everything was in working order and we confirmed with the ISP that we were good to go this morning. Something beyond our control obviously changed overnight. At this point we are suspending registration. Please check back here this evening for an update on a new date.

Summer Camp Registration Update
The Town of Amherst Youth and Recreation Department is aware that the summer camp registration process failed to adequately serve parents, and apologizes for the stress this caused our families. The company that the Town contracted with to process registration experienced a system failure. Due to high demand, it is a challenge to provide summer camp to as many families as possible. The Youth and Recreation Department took many proactive steps leading up to today to provide a fair registration process for all and we are disappointed that the provider did not deliver. The Youth and Recreation Department is committed to serving the Town of Amherst and will be providing an update for parents to hold summer camp registration as soon as possible. We understand that parents are anxious and in need of care for their children. We appreciate the trust that families have put in us throughout the years, and we will work continuously throughout the day to fix this error and provide updates.

Honoring Purple Heart Day - August 7
In recognition of Purple Heart Day, August 7, the Town of Amherst proudly displays a Purple Heart Flag at Town Hall, 5583 Main Street. The flag was first presented from the Military Order of the Purple Heart – Chapter 187 Western New York to the Town in 2022. As a designated Purple Heart Community, the Town joins communities around the nation to honor military personnel who have been killed, as well as those wounded in combat defending the principles and freedoms of the United States of America. “The Town of Amherst is honored to serve as a Purple Heart Community to recognize the servicemen and women who were killed or injured answering the call to protect our country. The impact of their sacrifices is felt every single day, and many struggle with the effects. We must stand with our servicemen and women who face these challenges, and support them however we can. Purple Heart Day is a reminder of their bravery and on this day, we honor them all,” said Deputy Supervisor Shawn Lavin. The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to honor those who were killed during wartime, foster an environment of goodwill among combat wounded members and their families, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives and to never forget the many decorated soldiers and veterans including Purple Heart recipients.

Draft Report Released for Main Street Corridor Study
The Town of Amherst Planning Department announces that as of Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the draft report for the Main Street Corridor Planning Project has been released. Anyone wishing to view the plan can click the link below or physical copies of the draft plan can be viewed at the Town of Amherst Planning Department (5583 Main Street, lower level, Williamsville, NY 14221). This specific planning project studied the Town’s Main Street transportation corridor between Bailey Avenue and Kensington Avenue at the I-290. Community workshops were held in January 2024 with the Town’s planning consultants, Dover Kohl & Partners and Creighton Manning Engineering, to explore how to improve safety; increase mobility options; accommodate parking; and envision how future street design can support local businesses, corridor institutions, and adjacent neighborhoods. The results of those workshops were incorporated into the highway concepts discussed in the report. Anyone with comments should write to the Amherst Planning Department, 5583 Main Street, Williamsville, NY 14221 or via email to rrappoccio@amherst.ny.us. The deadline to provide input is Friday, October 4, 2024. The consultants will conduct a presentation of the report to the Town Board at its September 16, 2024 work session at 4 pm.
